There is a district-wide need for snacks for students who don’t have a snack available to them. As a helpful service project for MLK Jr. Day, a “Snacks for Students” drive will run at each school.

SPARK will be collecting peanut-free individually packaged snacks (dried fruit, pretzels, chips, goldfish), cereal bars, healthy granola bars, apple sauce (single serving), fruit cups (single serving), and juice boxes. We will have a collection box in the front lobby during the week of January 9th - 13th.

Don’t forget to have your child bring in their coloring page to the fair. All entries are entered into a pool and a random winner is selected from each grade.

If you are able to help out for an hour of checkout during the fair, please sign up here!

THANKSGIVING DRIVE THANK YOU!

THANK YOU to all to all the Lilja families and staff who donated to our annual Thanksgiving Drive to benefit the Natick Service Council.  Our turkey gained all its feathers with every single classroom participating, along with the preschool and staff members.  It was a community effort, and we should be proud as we are a major supporter of the NSC’s Thanksgiving outreach.

Not only did we surpass our goal of $3000 for sponsoring 1 family per classroom  - that’s 22 large families - like we usually do, but together we collected a total of $4,375.16!!!!  The NSC will use this money to help so many families as they support our town’s community members in need - they have seen a 25% increase in demand, so a very sincere thank you for coming together. Thank you again for your generosity and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Kate Grzesiuk, Thanksgiving Drive Coordinator

PLIMOTH PATUXET FIELD TRIP

Field trips are back and the PTO is proud to help make them possible! Today, Lilja’s 3rd grade classes got a chance to visit Plimoth Patuxet to wrap up their social studies unit on Native peoples. Students explored Historic Patuxet, where they stepped inside a wetu (house), explored a recreation of a 17th Century English Village, and continued their learning about home and family life of Wampanoag communities in the 17th century.

If we keep the momentum going, we expect Lilja to be able to sponsor one family per classroom! Giving a little really does make a BIG difference!

The link to donate is here: www.venmo.com/u/LiljaTurkey (last 4 of phone 9451), and the deadline to contribute is November 18th.

THANKSGIVING DRIVE IS BACK!

We are excited to announce that Lilja will again be helping the Natick Service Council by sponsoring Natick families in need this Thanksgiving. For over a decade, each classroom at Lilja School donated the ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal for one family and we dropped over twenty full turkey dinners to the Natick Service Council (NSC). NSC distributes Thanksgiving meals to over 200 Natick families per year.

During the pandemic food donations from the school stopped but the Service Council also examined its food-handling protocol, as well as what makes for a special family meal. The NSC now provides its clients with gift cards from local grocery stores such that each family can make a meal meaningful to them, and shop accordingly.

Lilja has had great success in years past by having each classroom sponsor one family of 5+ people. To keep the tradition going, we will be asking for donations through the classroom and PTO so the school can raise enough money to sponsor twenty families!

This is a wonderful way to keep this Thanksgiving Drive meaningful, and teach our students what it means to be part of a community. The deadline to contribute is November 18th.

Look out for an email from your class parent with more information on collecting funds for your classroom, or you can donate directly here: venmo.com/u/LiljaTurkey Last four digits of phone number 9451.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity!

Children will exit the building from the Recess Doors (facing the swings on the lower field), walk along the blacktop (basketball court) and re-enter through the front doors on Bacon St. All students are welcome to wear a costume to school on 10/31 (optional). Remember to adhere to these guidelines.

Cultural Arts

Last week the youngest Lilja Lions were treated to a super fun show by Pimpernickel Puppets, courtesy of our Cultural Arts fund. Next Monday the PTO has organized a performance by Ball in the House, a Boston based acapella group. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to enrich students’ in school experiences.

Picture Retake Day

Picture retake day will be on December 7. If your child missed Picture Day, they will automatically be registered for Retake Day. There's no need to sign up in advance or pay for retakes, but the Coffeepond photographer will not be able to seek out students to be photographed. If you need to participate, let your child and classroom teacher know in advance so they are prepared on the day.

Lost & Found

A reminder that the Lost & Found shelves have now been permanently relocated to the main entrance of the school, near the front office. Please ensure all belongings are named, and have your child check the shelves if they are missing an item. Anthony’s Fundraiser

Dine in or get takeout from Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Natick on Wednesday October 19 from 11am to 9pm, mention Lilja, and they will donate 20% of the bill to the school! Anyone can participate, even if they don’t currently have children attending Lilja, so spread the word amongst your family, friends and neighbors! For more details and to RSVP, click here.

Trunk or Treat - Sign Up Now!

You can now sign up here to bring a decorated vehicle to our incredibly popular Halloween event, scheduled for Sunday October 30 from 10am-12pm. Cars should plan to arrive between 9-9:30 am to set up. Candy will be provided by the PTO or you can supply your own (non-food treats always encouraged as well). An email with complete details will be sent closer to the date.

If you have any questions related to the event or want to help out on the day in other ways, email us at pto@liljapto.org.

October Lunch Menu

Picture Day

Be organized and order your child’s Picture Day photos online now at CoffeePond.com. Simply select ‘Natick, MA’ then Lilja from the drop down menus, then choose your photo package. If your child is absent on the day, or you are not satisfied with the photo taken, there will be an opportunity for retakes later - please look out for details in the Friday school newsletter.

If a family is unable to purchase the photos, they can contact the school counsellor confidentially at csimoni@natickps.org for financial assistance.
