Is your family coming to the Fair...consider volunteering!

PTA Upcoming Events

Lilja Fair
The Fair is this Sunday, May 31st from 1:00-5:00 PM.  It is a fun day for families with great games, dunk tank, obstacle course, laser tag, bounce house, quack attack, face painting and so much more. Ben & Jerry’s and Caseys will be there again this year. The fair is open to the whole community not just Lilja families. Please help us spread the word! This is our largest and last fundraiser this year and help is needed.
Volunteer: It takes 20-25 volunteers per hour to keep all of the games and activities open. Please consider giving an hour of your time to help out. Parents are welcome to work a shift with their child helping them out, or if 4th grade students are interested in volunteering they can do so as well. We are also accepting middle and high school student volunteers to help out at the fair. Community service hours can be earned working at the fair. Please donate your time to the fair!
Bake some Goodies: The Cake Walk is one of the most popular games. For those who do not know, it is similar to musical chairs where the prize is a cake. Roche Bros. has donated 8x8 cake boxes for the fair, please keep this in mind when baking, we do not have larger boxes available. One box of cake mix makes two 8x8 cakes (round or square) which you can decorate in fun and creative ways. If it is a gluten free or peanut free cake, please mark the box. If you sign up to bake a cake we will send home a cake box with your child on Thursday, May 28th and Friday, May 29th. We need over 100 cakes to keep the game open for the full time. If  you sign up after 12:00PM on Friday, May 29th, please contact Mercedes Lagan to pick up your cake box over the weekend. Please drop off bake sale and cake walk cakes beginning at 11:00 or later Sunday morning.
Please contact Christine Kingdon or Colleen O’Leary with any questions!

Outside Events

Connect Africa Backpack & Supplies Drive
Lilja Elementary will be running a backpack and school supplies drive from June 15-22nd for the Connect-Africa Foundation. Connect-Africa aims to strengthen impoverished families in Uganda by providing educational sponsorship and micro loans. We aid orphans and vulnerable children and their caregivers. In Uganda orphans are taken in by extended family, taxing the family’s already meager resources. The guardians (generally elderly grandmothers; “Jajas”), are subsistence farmers often caring for numerous grandchildren making education, which is not free, out of reach for these families. We provide tuition and school supplies, uniforms and shoes, healthcare and personal hygiene supplies, tutoring and mentoring - for a child’s entire school career including university. We are looking for gently used backpacks, pens (not pencils), rulers, pocket dictionaries, scientific calculators, flip flops, and used, but working laptops. If your child is no longer in need of these items or has extras, please encourage them to deposit supplies in the collection bin that will be located in the front entrance. Items collected will be carried to Uganda by Connect Africa Director Lynn S. Auerbach. Thank you in advance for considering to donate! Learn more about this amazing foundation or find out how else you can get more involved.
With Kind Regards, Nicole Chan (Lilja Lion Kindergarten Parent)
