Frequently Asked Questions
What school supplies do I need?
Your child will need a backpack, lunch box and water bottle. The pack should be big enough to carry the lunch box, a home school folder and a library book or two. Extra space is helpful for winter time when extra clothes are needed for recess. LABEL EVERYTHING, the lost and found fills up quickly.
The school and PTO provide all the supplies your child will need for their classroom. Most teachers will ask that you send in a set of headphones/earbuds for your child in a labeled bag for computer lab. All teachers would appreciate any contribution of Antibacterial wipes, Hand sanitizer or tissues. Anything more specific your teacher needs will be communicated to you the first few days of school.
Kindergarten students have a few extra supplies, specifically a rest mat and an extra change of clothes in a labelled bag. If you have not received a letter from your kindergarten teacher over the summer, one will be coming home during the first few days with more details.
What is Curriculum Night?
In the month of September you will be given the opportunity to come to Lilja one evening and see your child’s classroom, meet their teacher and learn about the curriculum your child will be covering that year. In addition, you will be given information about frequently asked questions specific to that classroom and learn about classroom volunteer opportunities. This event is for parents and caregivers only, so complementary babysitting will be provided by the PTO for all those that need it in the Gymnasium. Please note, children attending must be toilet trained.

I will be walking/driving my child to school. Where do I drop them off and pick them up?
Lilja has updated their drop-off and pick-up procedures this year. Please look at the instructions provided by the Lilja Main Office. For drop off, Kindergarteners go in through the main doors and wait on the risers in the lobby by their teachers’ name. August 31st, Grades 1-4 will line up inside the gym; their teachers will be waiting there. Starting on September 1st, Grades 1-4 will go directly inside the building and line up outside their classroom door. For Pick-up, all students who have Parent Pick-up for their dismissal, will come out the doors by the cafeteria. There is a line walking parents can wait by and drivers can pull up and their children will be brought directly to the car.
What is BOKS?
BOKS is a before school physical activity program. BOKS prepares children for a day of learning and is an important step in helping children appreciate the benefits of exercise and healthy choices that will last a lifetime. BOKS was inspired by Dr. John Ratey’s book “Spark”. Dr. Ratey, of Harvard Medical School, states that “exercise is the single most powerful tool that we have to optimize the function of our brains.” Classes are filled with team-oriented games and provide plenty of opportunity for play, since the program focuses on fun! The sessions run mid September through the first week of December and then start again the end of January through mid-May. You can find more information about the fall session or print off the registration form here.
